The Face of Gun Violence
More Than Just Numbers

The Face of Gun Violence in New Mexico is a project to document the victims that have been forgotten and give them a voice.

And Justice for All Our Children

Here are a few of the Forgotten

Suicide Prevention

1. 65 people kill themselves with a gun every day.

2. A gun in the home increases the risk of suicide.

3. In 2021, 54% of all gun-related deaths in the U.S. were suicides.

Bennie’s Law

The law is named after Bennie Hargrove,

a 13-year-old who was shot and killed during lunch at Washington Middle School in August 2021 by a fellow student who took his parent's handgun and brought it to school.

The law makes it a crime to negligently store a firearm and allow a child to misuse the weapon.

We started this project as a result of several conversations about gun violence and the frustration we had with the lack of progress on the issue. We felt the problem of gun violence and it's solutions needed to include more than just statistics.

There are lives behind the violence - there are consequences that spread beyond a single death that effect us all. We are all victims to some extent, and our hope is these stories can help the public to not only see, but feel what is happening all around us. Then, maybe some meaningful action might be taken.
